As the festive season approaches, the Stonecot Dedicated Ward Officers (DWO) are reminding residents to take simple steps to reduce the risk of burglary. Offenders often take advantage of darker evenings, empty homes, and visible presents. The festive period can be very busy and strenuous for some and we went you all to be able to enjoy the festive period with your loved ones without the extra worry of someone breaking into your property. Please take a moment to review the following advice to help keep your home and neighbourhood safe: ๐ Home Security Always lock doors and windows, even when you are at home or popping out briefly.Use timer switches on lights and radios to make your property appear occupied.Ensure burglar alarms are set correctly and in good working order.Fit security lighting around entrances, driveways, and darker areas. ๐ Gifts & Valuables Keep presents and valuables out of sight from windows.Do not leave gifts unattended in vehicles.Dispose of packaging discreetly and avoid leaving boxes outside.Record serial numbers of valuable items and consider property marking. ๐งณ Going Away Cancel deliveries such as milk or newspapers.Ask a trusted neighbour to check on your property.Avoid posting holiday plans on social media until after you return. ๐ Keys, Sheds & Garages Keep keys out of sight and away from doors and windows.Lock garages and sheds securelyโtools can be used to force entry.Secure gates and maintain fences and hedges. ๐ Vehicles Lock vehicles and remove all valuables.Park in well-lit areas where possible.Never leave car keys near doors or windows. ๐ค Community Awareness Look out for your neighbours, especially vulnerable residents.Report any suspicious behaviour promptly.Consider joining or supporting your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme. ๐ Reporting & Contact Details Emergency (crime in progress): 999Non-emergency police matters: 101Online reporting & crime prevention advice: www.met.police.uk Working with the community to keep Stonecot safe this Christmas and beyond. |
